Making the journey from patient to person takes time. The isolation and fear that can overwhelm a person with chronic pain grows over time. And the return to a fuller, more rewarding life also takes time.
It’s a journey with many phases. The ACPA describes these phases as Ten Steps.
The ACPA’s Ten Steps For Moving From Patient To Person. [...]
Researchers at the University of Michigan Health System have found a key linkage between pain and a specific brain molecule, a discovery that lends new insight into fibromyalgia, an often-baffling chronic pain condition. [...]
Cobroxin is the first OTC pain reliever clinically proven to treat Stage 2 (moderate to severe) chronic pain. The drug, which was developed by Nutra Pharma’s wholly-owned drug discovery subsidiary, ReceptoPharm, will be available as an oral spray for treating lower back pain, migraines, neck aches, shoulder pain, cramps and neuralgia and as a topical gel for treating repetitive stress, arthritis, and joint pain [...]
In June 2009 the World Health Organization declared that the spread of a novel H1N1 Swine Flu had reached pandemic levels. At the time of this writing, the swine flu has become widespread in the southern United States, especially the Southeast. Savella affects certain chemicals in the brain called neurotransmitters. An abnormality in these chemicals is thought to be related to fibromyalgia. Savella is not used to treat depression but how it works in the body is similar to how some antidepressants work. [...]
Milnacipran, marketed under the brand name Savella in the United States, is the latest drug to receive Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for the management of fibromyalgia. The FDA approved fibromyalgia indications for two other drugs — pregabalin (Lyrica) and duloxetine (Cymbalta) — in 2007 and 2008, respectively. [...]
Only one high-quality clinical trial has looked at gabapentin (Neurontin, Gabarone) as a fibromyalgia treatment. In that study, the drug reduced participants’ reported pain, fatigue and sleep disruption more effectively than did a placebo. [...]
I first had symptoms in 1983 (twenty three years old) shortly after a case of Mononucleosis. I went to my doctor with fatigue and joint pain and she explained that a “rheumatoid effect” can occur for 3 to 5 years after having Mono and prescribed meds to treat the symptoms. [...]
My “new life” is so positive and filled with hope that I hesitate to stir up old memories of my battle with Fibromyalgia. For 20 years, I struggled with this mysterious affliction. My illness began as a series of flu-like symptoms accompanied by extreme fatigue, weakness and pain in my arms and legs. [...]
